Milagu Kozhambu (Pepper Kozhambu)
This kozhambu is very good to keep cold away. Or, if you have a cold this will relieve the cold. Also good for digestion, this is the best for lactating mothers.
Ingredients
Pepper 3 Tbsp
Curry Leaves 1 and a half cup
Red chilies 5-6
Chana dal 2 Tbsp
Aesofoetida 1/2 Tsp
Tamarind 1 ball, the size of a big lemon
Dried Turkey Berry (Sundakkai vattal) 3 Tbsp
Oil 2 Tbsp
Salt to taste (using rock salt is better for taste and health)
Method
For the paste
1. Heat one tbsp oil in a kadai
2. Slightly fry the peper, red chilies, chana dal, aesofoetida, and curry leaves and let it cool
3. Grind the fried mixture along with salt to a thick paste
For the kozhambu
1. Heat one tbsp oil in the kadai
2. Temper the dried turkey berries
3. Pour tamarind water and let it boil
4. Add the ground mixture and let it simmer for about 5 minutes
Note:
1. This kozhambu should be had with hot rice to reap its medicinal benefits in full.
2. Do not boil it after adding the ground mixture. It has the tendency to become bitter if boiled.
